Driving Home
by Aaron Crawford

Driving home, I noticed a car that pulled up beside me. On the dash and window, I saw a cell phone, a radar detector, a navigation system and what looked like a satellite radio. I smiled and laughed to myself, thinking, how do they drive down the road with all that stuff? As I continued driving, I noticed everyone breaking way ahead of me. Somebody had an accident. I moved over to the left lane, but noticed that many people waited until the last minute to decide to change lanes. I learned long ago, while driving semis, to keep looking way down the road. One, to see what may be coming up and two, to insure you have enough time to stop. This drive home, reminded me of our lives as Christians and how we can be distracted spiritually, in our walk with the Lord.

Proverbs 4:25 Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. 26 Watch the path of your feet And all your ways will be established. 27 Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil.

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

There's an old saying, "Look at life through the windshield, not the rearview mirror". This makes a lot of sense, but when your driving, you should not only look ahead of you, but rather look at all your surroundings.

Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm. 21 Adversity pursues sinners, But the righteous will be rewarded with prosperity.

1 Cor. 15:33 Do not be deceived, evil company corrupts good habits.

Making it safe to ones destination is in fact the goal while driving. Same as in the way we live our lives.

1 Cor. 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

So whether your driving, walking or just standing around. Do it in a way that is pleasing to God. Stay focused on what is really important and remember.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
