Church of Christ Meets Here
A school assignment by our Sheldon Tooley

If I were the President of the United States there would be a lot of things I would change. It is not an easy job to do so you should cut some slack for them. If I was the great commander and chief I would be in the Republican Party. Which means I would talk about education, gay rights, abortion, jobs, and health care and a lot more. These are the main ones I will focus on.

Let’s start off with education. The drop out rate is going up in the United States. In the U.S. kids between the ages of 16 and 24, 6.2 million kids, dropped out in high school. This number is growing rapidly by the years. In order to stop this I would lower the prices of college so the kids in high school would have something to look forward to. I would also make sure that only the best teachers were teaching so they could get the best education as possible. The final thing I would do is to make it illegal to drop out until the age of 18.

On to one of the biggest to me which is gay rights. I am a Christian and do what the Bible says to do. In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 it says, “Do not be deceived; neither the sexual immoral, nor idolatries, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” I am a big fan of my Dad and always wanted to be just like him and he always told me that God made men for women. Not man for man nor woman for women. I would fight to make homosexual marriages illegal.

This is also a big one to me which is abortion. I think if you are going to have a sexual affair with a woman or man you would want a baby. You should also be married when doing so or you would be committing fornication. God does not mention the word abortion in the Bible but does mention murder in the Bible which are the same things. If one of my friends asked me, should they have an abortion with there baby I would have a long talk with them. In one of my church lessons there was a man named Dr. Bernard Nathanson who was New York’s first abortion clinic and he supervised into the taking of 60,000 lives. If you don’t have any feeling about that then I say you have no heart. This would be another priority to me to make abortion illegal.

Lets move on to a really big problem in America and it is jobs. Our population is growing like weeds so there are starting to be no jobs left. I hear on the news and from my parents talking about people getting laid off. Now there are starting to be foreclosed homes now because people can’t pay there bills. If you see a dog on the side of the street you may pick him up. What if you saw a homeless person on the street. Most of the people I know would just stare at them. So I would try to make jobs available for every one. My father told me that people in China will work for hardly anything. But U.S. citizens are too greedy to do that.

Our final topic to talk about is health care. I hear Barrack Obama talk about it all the time on CNN. I think that if you have a job it should supply health care. A lot of people cannot afford it so what if they got really sick. There would be nothing they could do unless they wanted to burn a hole in their wallet. Let’s face it though the quality of health care now of days is horrible. You have to search forever to find a good health care system. There’s not too many thing I could do about health care to be honest but I would try hard to help all the people that need it.

I understand the duties and the hardness of a president but I would still like to have the honor to be one.

Dear Sheldon,

Just want to let you know how much I appreciate your sharing your IF I WERE PRESIDENT assignment with me. I told you Wednesday evening when you gave it to me that I wish you were President rather than Obama. After the reading of your article, I’m sure of it.

I do so much appreciate your taking a stand on such subjects as abortion and homosexuality. It is so easy for people to go through life trying to do that politically correct and popular thing. Often men no longer stand for morality or principle. It is refreshing to see that in this coming generation there are people like you that do believe in the Bible and believe in it guiding their lives.

I was a little surprised by the education idea of making it mandatory to stay in school till 18. I thought at your age you would make it 15. Ha Ha… Really, I’m proud of you for that as well and the care you have for the needy. Loving God and your fellow man is commendable. And rather than just giving to others, you were seeking to help them find jobs so that they can provide for their own. That too is a great principle that I wish our nation pushed more.

You may never be President of the USA but you will be a great blessing to the church of our Lord as you hold to such principles as these. And if you please the Lord and help others do the same and prepare for eternity, you will be a far greater blessing to this country than if you were president.

May God continue to bless you as he has already. I am proud of you.
