As a Technician, I am faced with working on things that I don't always understand. From cooling equipment to my own lawnmower, things don't always work the way one would expect them to work. When this happens, it's time to trouble shoot the situation. In my area of work, we use a phrase called a "Sequence of Events". This is basically, a what happens in what order to achieve the desired outcome.

Just about everything has a Sequence of Events. Your car, when you turn the key, things are happening. Your television when you push the channel selector, things are happening. If something is out of order or "sequence" things don't always work the way we want them to. The same "idea" or system can be used in our daily life as well and in our Christian life.

When we say, "We are a Christian" do we really know how this came about? Sometimes, in my line of work, it's necessary to contact the "Engineer" that designed the system to get a better understanding of what and how he/she wanted something to work. God gave us the Bible and there you will find your Sequence of Events to becoming a Christian.

When Peter spoke in Acts 2:22, "Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know; 23 him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay: 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it."

These men heard and believed what was being said to them. Later in Acts 2:36, "Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified. 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?"

When I have a problem and I have to call somebody for help, I ask the same thing. "What Shall I Do?" Peter goes on to tell them, in Acts 2:38, "And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins.; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Repent, Be Baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the Remission of your sins... Then you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Not before, not during, but after one Repents and is Baptized for the Remission of their sins will they receive this gift.

Peter goes on in Acts 2, "39 For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him. 40 And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation. "41 they then that received his word were baptized: and there were added unto them in that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in prayers."

This is how the Engineer of the Bible intended for things to happen, for people to be added unto His church.
