“If the skies above you are gray, you are feeling so blue…SING AND BE HAPPY.” That’s the way the song goes, and that’s the way the Christian should feel about his life. Church of Christ Meets Here Too many people seem to be waiting for happiness in the future. What’s wrong with today? Sure, happiness is a city we are striving to reach, but happiness is also being a part of the “city of the living God” right now (read Hebrews 12:22-24).

I’m afraid that if we push our happiness too far out into the future, we won’t know how to appreciate it when we get it…if we get it. It is like spending our whole lives making money and not being able to enjoy spending it when we retire…if we live to retire.

Some of the best times we have are not bought with money. Living and loving with those around us are not necessarily better because more dollars and more things are present. Taking pride in what we are inside and what we have done for good are not really based on the dollars we spent achieving them. Real friends and neighbors do not ordinarily judge by what we have, but by the attitude of mind and heart that we exhibit in the way we deal with them. The sound of birds singing or crickets chirping, the beauties of the moon above at night, a walk in the gentle rain, are not bought with coins.

Abraham Lincoln once said that a man is about as happy as he makes up his mind to be. Happy people are happy most of the time. Miserable people are miserable most of the time.

The Good Lord once said about living according to God’s will: “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them” (KJV, John 13:17). If you are sad, turn your life around in Christ. BE HAPPY!
