NOTE YOUR INFLUENCE

Curtis Hatcher sent me this email and I thought it good enough to print in the bulletin. We all need to stop and think about our actions before others. Our influence is the greatest tool we have in leading others to Christ. Let us not ruin the best thing we have by a loss of temper. Too often we act as if we were a part of the world rather than a part of Jesus Christ. Where does your influence lead others?

Too many Christians say things that are hurtful, condescending, self-righteous. Too often we think of self rather than thinking of others. James says our speech can be deadly (read James 3). Jesus said, “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh”, Matt 12:34. Now note the next two verses, “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” Are you watching your words, thoughts and actions as one that shall give account at Judgment?

The light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing,
stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red
light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in
frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection,
dropping her cell phone and makeup.

As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked
up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered
her to exit her car with her hands up..

He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted,
photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the
door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting
officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, ''I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind
your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front
of you and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus
Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow
Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian
fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally....I assumed you had stolen the
    car.'

May God help us to be more thoughtful of others than was this woman! We are counting on God’s being thoughtful of us. Are we thoughtful of others?
