So what is a Christian anyway
by Aaron Crawford, Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009

Becoming a Christian is an awesome thing. What could be better in life, than to know that, no matter what happens, it’s going to be OK, knowing where you will spend eternity. What comfort that can be.

So what is a Christian anyway.

Acts 11:26, and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch and for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Webster Dictionary defines a Christian as “one who professes belief in the teaching of Jesus Christ”

So what is belief?

Webster defines Belief as “a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing.”

Faith is a synonym for Belief. So how do you get Faith?

Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Faith or belief come from Hearing God’s word. You can’t believe something you’ve never heard.

But what now, after you hear and believe?

Jesus said, Mark 16:16, “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he that has disbelieved shall be condemned.” John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” And in Acts 2:38, Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And there are multiple accounts found thru out the Bible, for example in Acts 8:12, “But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. Or in the case of the Ethiopian Eunuch, Acts 8:36, “As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 37 And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered ands said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” 38 And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.

So you see, Baptism is very much apart of becoming a Christian and when you become a Christian and are faithful to God’s word, at the end of the day it will be OK.
