In Luke 1:30 we read that Mary, the mother of my Lord, had “found favor with God”. Elizabeth as well had been blessed of the Lord. Note the character of these two women. Luke says of Elizabeth with her husband Zechariah that, “they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless”, Luke 1:6. Listen to the attitude of Mary, “behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word”, Luke 1:38. And again in verse 46, “My soul doth magnify the Lord”. These two women were chosen by God to have John the baptizer and Jesus the Son of God. As a result of finding favor in God’s sight we are also greatly blessing.

FAVORED TO WORSHIP HIM! What greater blessing could we have than to be able to worship God in spirit and in truth? He is worthy. He is above all. He has created us and sustained us with all physical blessings. He has given His Son to die on Calvary for us. There is nothing better that we can do than glorify Him as Mary said, “My soul doth magnify the Lord”. We are blessed with such ability in life. We attend the services, hopefully not out of pure obligation but out of a desire to worship Him as He directs. We are allowed to pray and read our Bibles daily because we are favored of the Lord to worship Him daily.

FAVORED TO SERVE HIM! To walk in His ways is a great privilege. Elizabeth was, “righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.” Is this not why we study our Bible that we may fulfill His will and live as He directs? May we find favor with God and be blessed to serve Him. May He give us wisdom (James 1:5) to apply His word to our lives so that we might fulfill our calling in the gospel and serve Him. It is a blessing to serve Him in living for Him and for others. This is the only blessed way to live! We will make a mess of life if we do not serve Him.

FAVORED TO LEAD OTHERS TO HIM! Elizabeth and Mary were blessed to bring John and Jesus into this world. It is our blessing to lead others in life to the Lord. Is this not one of the greatest privileges man has? Peter encourages wives to set the example before unbelieving mates, 1 Peter. 3. Our children mean the world to us. What is better in life than teaching them to love the Lord by our example and word! To see them obey the gospel and live for the Lord is the greatest joy life offers. This is where we have hope for them for eternity. We are also blessed with the gospel to teach it to others and lead them in the ways of righteousness. Are you preaching, teaching, and setting an example of good before others and in general leading men to the Lord? What glory this is, to have an influence for the Lord! May God help us to lead others to Him!

Yes, Mary and Elizabeth were highly favored by the Lord in the bringing of Jesus and John into this world. We too are HIGHLY FAVORED OF THE LORD in the spiritual blessings we have and the hope of eternal life we possess and in the work He has given us to do on this earth. Let us ever study His will, apply it to our lives, seek to teach it to others and thank God for His mercy, grace and love. May we ever live to love and glorify Him. He has blessed us so!
