Life is difficult when you do not know what you want to be. It is simple to drift with the tide and just be whatever people want you to be. When they drink, you just go along with them and join in. When they lie to their parents about where you are going or what you are doing, you just go along and lie and back them up. When they steal some little something from a department store, you don’t leave them or get away from them but just keep quiet and before long you take something that doesn’t belong to you. Or when they treat other people with disrespect, you just learn to show disrespect to others as well.

Life becomes clearer when you have principles guiding you. It is not hard to tell the truth when your determination is to be upright and forthright in all that you do. It is not hard to resist drinking when you are determined to amount to more than that in life. It is not hard to withstand stealing when you know God disapproves of such and your goal in life is to please Him in all that you do. It is not hard to stand up for the underdog when people are mistreating them when you really care about other people more than yourself. In fact it is not hard to get away from evil company when you desire a life that pleases the Lord.

Paul said, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you”, 2 Cor 6:14-17.

It is not hard to choose your friends when you have principles leading you. Those who do not walk as Christians do not appeal to you when you are led by the Spirit of God and His Word.

But now if you are led by the flesh it will be easy for you to choose friends who do not love the Lord nor His will and do not really care how they treat other people or if they walk in sin.

My question is, “What do you want to be?” What you become now will determine your eternity. Jesus said, “I do always those things that please Him!” I would like that said of me, what would you like said about you? Is pleasing God really important to you?

Young people of innocent years need to heed this message but it is also needed by those of us who are older for we have become set in our ways and we need to make sure our ways are the Lord’s ways. Do we really love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and do we really love our neighbor as ourselves. Or could it be that we have become our own God and we seek to be as foolish as children. Will God say to us, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant”?
