By Stan L. Caldwell, Psalm 15

Psalm 15 is indeed a beautiful Psalm. It is attributed to David. In verse one the theme is given, “Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill?” There are several general criteria in being one with God given by the Psalmist.

I. He loves right, verse 2
A.He walks uprightly
B.He works righteousness
C.He speaks the truth in his heart

II. He cares for others, verse 3
A.He will not backbite
B.He does not do evil
C.He does not repeat evil

III. He promotes goodness, verse 4
A.He condemns a vile person
B.He honors one that fears God
C.He is true to his word

IV. He loves truth more than money, verse 5
A.He will not wrongfully take from others
B.He will not be bribed

The Psalmist tells us that this man shall not be moved. He is steadfast. He is kept in the protecting hands of God. How glorious is such a man. Let us look at ourselves and see if we are in the same category as this man.

Do we love right? Our nation is falling because of the deception and lack of true direction we are following. Right seems to mean little from the top down in our nation. Jesus said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free”, John 8:32
How shall we know truth, if we do not love right? We must love righteousness!

Do we care for others? Gossip is far too common even among brethren in Christ. 1 Tim. 5:13 says many “learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.” Some things need to come to light but not caring about others is sin.

Do we promote goodness? Our nation seems to promote fornication, lying, homosexuality, abortion and a host of other sins while abhorring the virtuous person. Man’s word is meaningless in the Congress of the United States it seems. Are you true to your word and do you honor those who are good?

Do we love truth more than money? Too many will lie on their income taxes, cheat others out of money by overcharging them or by taking from them in any way they can. I’ve heard of men stealing from the treasury of the church. Paul said, “But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil…”, 1 Tim. 6:9-10. Righteousness is destroyed often by bribes.

But now if you do love right, care for others, promote goodness and love truth more than money you have a foundation that shall help you to stand with God, accept the gospel, obey the Lord and be blessed, 1 Cor. 15:58.
